Terms of Service

Last updated August 20, 2026

These terms govern your use of Cosmoss on iOS and Android. By downloading, installing, or using the app, you agree to them.

Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using Cosmoss, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please don’t use the app.

Description of the service

Cosmoss is a mobile application for Android and iOS that provides astronomical calculations and information — including night-sky visibility, cosmic events, Moon phases, and Solar System data — computed from your location and the current date and time. Cosmoss does not require an account and does not offer any service beyond the app itself (no web dashboard, no cloud sync, no subscription).

Eligibility

Cosmoss is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region). If you are under the age required to consent to these terms in your jurisdiction, you may use Cosmoss only with the involvement of a parent or guardian.

License to use the app

Subject to your compliance with these terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use Cosmoss on devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial use, in the form distributed through the Apple App Store or Google Play. This license does not grant you any right to the underlying source code, astronomical datasets, or design assets bundled with the app.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except where applicable law expressly permits it;
  • Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the app or its content for redistribution;
  • Use the app in any way that violates applicable law, or to harass, abuse, or harm another person;
  • Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to the app or its underlying systems;
  • Remove, obscure, or alter any proprietary notices in the app.

Scientific & educational content

Cosmoss’s astronomical calculations (positions, rise/set times, Moon phase, event dates) are computed using standard astronomical algorithms and are intended for general stargazing, educational, and planning purposes. While we take care to use well-established formulas and cite real scientific sources for static facts, Cosmoss does not guarantee perfect precision for every use case, and calculations may differ slightly from other sources due to rounding, atmospheric refraction assumptions, or timing conventions.

Do not rely on Cosmoss as the sole source for any application requiring guaranteed precision (for example, professional or scientific observation planning, navigation, or safety-critical timing).

Safety notice

Note
Never look directly at the Sun — including during a partial or annular solar eclipse — without certified solar-viewing equipment (eclipse glasses meeting the ISO 12312-2 standard, or a properly filtered telescope). Cosmoss provides informational eclipse timing and visibility data; it does not provide, and is not a substitute for, certified eye-safety equipment or guidance. Serious and permanent eye injury can result from unprotected solar viewing.

Advertising & third-party services

Cosmoss is supported by advertising delivered through Google AdMob, as described in our Privacy Policy. By using Cosmoss, you acknowledge that you may be shown ads served by Google and its advertising partners, subject to Google’s own terms: Google Terms of Service. Cosmoss is not responsible for the content of third-party advertisements.

Intellectual property

Cosmoss, its logo, and its original design, software, and content are owned by Cosmoss’s developers and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Star and constellation data, and planetary physical data referenced in the app, are sourced from and attributed to their original providers (including the HYG Database, d3-celestial, and Wikipedia-sourced NASA/JPL/IAU data) under their respective open licenses; see the app’s in-app attribution for details.

Disclaimer of warranties

Cosmoss is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its calculations will be accurate in every circumstance.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cosmoss’s developers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the app — including reliance on any astronomical calculation, event timing, or visibility information it provides. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Apple App Store terms

If you downloaded Cosmoss from the Apple App Store, the following additional terms apply, as required by Apple:

Apple App Store
  • This agreement is between you and Cosmoss’s developers only, not with Apple; Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
  • Your license to use Cosmoss is limited to Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store’s Usage Rules.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Cosmoss.
  • In the event of any failure of Cosmoss to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any); to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to Cosmoss.
  • Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or a third party relating to Cosmoss, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, or claims arising under consumer protection law.
  • Apple is not responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, or discharge of any third-party claim that Cosmoss infringes their intellectual property rights.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. government embargo, and are not on any U.S. government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple, and Apple’s subsidiaries, are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and Apple has the right to enforce them against you.

Google Play terms

If you downloaded Cosmoss from Google Play, your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Cosmoss’s developers, not Google, are solely responsible for the app and its content.

Termination

You may stop using Cosmoss at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or discontinue any part of the app at any time. Because Cosmoss has no accounts, there is no account to terminate — uninstalling the app ends your use of it and removes all locally stored data.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in-app. Continuing to use Cosmoss after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

[Governing law and jurisdiction — add the developer’s registered jurisdiction before publishing to app stores.] This does not limit any consumer protection rights you have under the mandatory laws of your country of residence.
